System Requirements

St. Joseph School for the Blind, located in Jersey City, NJ, sought to modernize their multipurpose gym with a professional sound and video system that could support assemblies, performances, and daily school events. Their previous setup relied on portable loudspeakers and a small projector screen, which limited both clarity and coverage. The school turned to JD Sound and Video, trusted throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware for expertise in designing and installing reliable AV systems in schools, houses of worship, and community spaces.

System Design

JD Sound and Video engineered and installed a complete solution that delivers clear, even sound coverage and bright, high-definition visuals, all with simple, user-friendly controls.

The audio system features four JBL AC266 loudspeakers, with two mounted above the stage and two additional delay speakers placed toward the rear of the gym to ensure consistent levels from front to back. Two Crown XTi2002 amplifiers with onboard DSP provide power and precise tuning.

An Allen & Heath CQ-18T digital mixer with a built-in touchscreen offers advanced audio processing, while wireless iPad control gives staff full flexibility to adjust sound from anywhere in the room. Microphone options include Shure BLX wireless systems (handheld, lapel, and headset), along with three Shure MX202 choir microphones suspended above the stage for group performances. An RF Venue antenna distribution system ensures stable wireless operation, and a Listen Technologies assistive listening system meets ADA accessibility requirements.

For video, JD Sound and Video installed an 8,200-lumen Eiki EK-820LU laser projector paired with a 137” Draper rear-projection screen, delivering sharp, vibrant images even in bright conditions. Connectivity is simple with wall-mounted HDMI and USB-C inputs, and a Biamp Impera Echo Plus button controller provides straightforward, one-touch projector operation
