Outdoor Amphitheater Sound System Installation in Somerdale, NJ
Project overview
Outdoor Amphitheater Sound System Installation was the focus of this complete municipal AV project for the Borough of Somerdale in Somerdale, New Jersey. JD Sound & Video designed and installed an outdoor performance-venue audio system with weather-resistant loudspeakers, digital mixing, Shure wireless microphones, custom stage connections, and DMX-controlled LED stage lighting.
Outdoor sound system installation
For sound reinforcement, we installed two weather-resistant Community R.5 horn-loaded loudspeakers at the front roofline of the amphitheater. We selected the loudspeakers to provide clear speech intelligibility and music reinforcement across the audience area while withstanding the demands of an outdoor installation.
A Community ALC-series DSP amplifier powers the system and provides the processing needed to optimize loudspeaker performance for the stage and audience area. Following installation, the system was commissioned and tuned to deliver balanced coverage for public-address use, live music, and special events.

The stage input system gives performers and event staff a practical interface for connecting microphones, laptops, phones, tablets, and visiting audio systems without running temporary cabling throughout the venue.
Outdoor stage lighting system
JD Sound & Video also installed a dedicated DMX-controlled outdoor stage-lighting system to support nighttime performances, public events, and community programming.
The lighting system includes twelve Blizard IP65-rated LED wash fixtures, mounted beneath the amphitheater roof using stainless mounting hardware. These fixtures provide RGBW color mixing and flexible scene options while being suitable for outdoor exposure.
A ChamSys QuickQ lighting console provides central control of the fixtures. The system can be operated locally from the console and wirelessly from an owner-provided iPad over the installed Luxul Wi-Fi network. Outdoor-rated Gepco DMX cable was routed neatly along the structure to connect and control the fixture array.
Following installation, the fixtures were aimed, programmed, synchronized, and loaded with practical presets for different event conditions. JD Sound & Video also provided hands-on training so Borough staff could confidently recall lighting looks and operate the system for future events.
Commissioning, Training, and Long-Term Use
Outdoor venue systems must be designed for more than installation day. After installation, JD Sound & Video commissioned the audio and lighting systems, verified operation, and adjusted coverage and levels for the amphitheater audience area. The lighting fixtures were aimed, programmed, and loaded with presets to support different event conditions.
Borough staff also received hands-on training covering mixer operation, wireless microphone use, scene recall, lighting control, and iPad-based operation. This gives the Borough a practical system for community concerts, ceremonies, public programs, announcements, and visiting performers without requiring a dedicated AV technician for every event.
