Professional Stadium Audio System for Mountain Lakes High School

JD Sound and Video completed a stadium sound system upgrade for Mountain Lakes High School, providing improved audio coverage for athletic events, announcements, music playback, and game-day communication. The system was designed to deliver strong, clear sound from the home side of the field while maintaining controlled coverage throughout the stadium and surrounding areas.

Outdoor athletic facilities present several challenges. Stadium sound systems need to provide enough output for fans, players, coaches, and announcers, while also managing sound spill beyond the field. For this project, JD Sound and Video designed a loudspeaker layout that focused coverage on the field and home-side seating areas, with additional support for broader field coverage from a secondary pole location.

Home-Side Stadium Speaker Design

The majority of the system is handled from a main pole on the home side of the stadium. This approach keeps the system efficient, serviceable, and focused toward the areas where sound is needed most. The main loudspeaker position includes two Community R2 loudspeakers, which provide powerful long-throw coverage for the stadium and field.

To support local audio coverage closer to the home-side seating area, the system also includes a Community R.5 loudspeaker. This helps fill areas that may not be fully covered by the larger long-throw loudspeakers alone. By combining high-output main loudspeakers with a more localized fill speaker, the system provides a more even listening experience across the stadium.

A secondary loudspeaker location on the opposite pole includes a Community R1 loudspeaker for additional field coverage. This helps improve intelligibility and consistency across the playing surface without overloading the home-side speakers or creating excessive volume in one area.

Crown Amplification and Symetrix DSP Control

The stadium audio system is powered by Crown amplifiers, providing dependable power for the outdoor loudspeaker system. Crown amplifiers are commonly used in professional commercial sound systems because of their reliability, performance, and ability to support demanding loudspeaker loads in venues such as gymnasiums, auditoriums, athletic fields, and stadiums.

System processing is handled by a Symetrix DSP, which manages audio routing, presets, level control, and system tuning. This allows the district to operate the system more easily while still maintaining the benefits of a professionally configured audio system. Presets and level control help keep daily operation simple, whether the system is being used for football games, lacrosse, soccer, track events, ceremonies, or general announcements.

The DSP also allows JD Sound and Video to fine-tune the system for the stadium environment. Outdoor spaces require careful adjustment of speaker levels, delay, equalization, and coverage patterns to avoid hot spots, weak areas, and unnecessary sound spill.

Shure Wireless Microphone System

For announcers and event staff, the system includes Shure wireless microphone technology. Shure wireless systems are a trusted choice for school stadiums and athletic facilities because they provide dependable performance, clear speech, and flexible operation.

Wireless microphones are especially important in stadium environments where users may need to make announcements from a press box, field area, or other event location. A properly installed wireless system helps reduce dropouts and improves reliability during games, graduations, pep rallies, and other large outdoor events.

Property Line Sound Level Analysis

In addition to the stadium sound system installation, JD Sound and Video completed an acoustic sound level analysis at the property line and provided a report for the school district. This helped evaluate how the sound system performed not only inside the stadium, but also in relation to nearby areas outside the athletic field.

This is an important step for many school districts, especially in residential areas or communities where sound control matters. A stadium system should be loud enough to support events clearly, but it should also be designed responsibly. JD Sound and Video’s analysis helped document the system’s performance and provided the district with useful information regarding sound levels beyond the stadium.

Designed for School Athletics and Community Events

The finished system gives Mountain Lakes High School a professional stadium audio solution that supports a wide range of events. From clear announcements during games to music playback and event production, the system was designed to be practical, powerful, and easy to use.

JD Sound and Video works with schools throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware to design and install sound systems for stadiums, gymnasiums, auditoriums, cafeterias, theaters, and multi-purpose spaces. Each project is designed around the facility, the users, the budget, and the long-term needs of the school.

For Mountain Lakes High School, the result is a stadium sound system that combines powerful Community loudspeakers, Crown amplification, Shure wireless microphones, and Symetrix DSP control into a reliable, professionally installed system for school athletics and community events.
